25th Hour Review

I have always enjoyed Spike Lee movies, i can't think of a Spike Lee Joint that i don't like. The movies that he dircects and write always make me smile in some form or another. Even though people talk bad about "She Hate Me," it is one great movie. I love the idea of that movie so much, and i talk about that movie more than any other movie. But i love "25th Hour".

This movie has all the best lines and actors from the year 2002. The way the DEA agent says, "sheeeeeeeeeit." Oh so creepy and cool at the same time, and so memorable. How Edward Norton makes his best friend beat him up. Philip Seymour Hoffman as a school teacher. One who lives in the real world and doesn't understand anything about the underground. Just as i would imagine him to be.

The only downfall of the movie, is Edward Norton's ten minute rant about Races and types of people. He usually picks the great roles like American History X. But as most actors he picks his bad roles such as the one he played in Italian Jobs. But i heard that with all the money he made off of Red Dragon he used to finance 25th Hour.

This movie reminds me of who my friends are. It reminds me of my family. It reminds me of life. Even thought he is a drug dealer, its not really about that. Its about what would you do if you knew that you were going to die or had to go away forever. Would you make up with your friends, would you possibly find out why you are going to where you are going? Just have a good old time knowing you can't do any worse.

I have a lot of favorite quotes from the movie, but my most favorite is, "Champagne for my real friends, and real pain for my sham friends." I found out that's a quote from Francis Bacon. But if i had to describe the movie in one line, thats the line right there.
